Privacy Policy for Stopwatch with Notes

Stopwatch with Notes ("the app") is developed by Deepankar Garg ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles.

Summary

The app has no accounts, no advertising and no third-party SDKs, and every feature works offline. It keeps your sessions on your device. About once a day it sends us usage data, including your finished sessions with their notes and tags, so we can see how the app is used and improve it. It also sends feedback you type in Settings, when you tap Send.

Data on your device

Everything you enter (stopwatch sessions, lap times, tags and notes) is stored in a local database on your device, using Android's standard app storage. It is deleted if you uninstall the app or clear the app's storage from Android Settings.

Usage data

In the background, about once a day, the app sends usage data over an encrypted connection to a small service we run on Cloudflare, which stores it in a database only we can read. It contains:

• a random ID the app makes when it is first opened, so we can tell one installation's data from another's. It is not your Android ID, advertising ID or any hardware ID, and it is not linked to your name, email address, phone number or any account;
• the app version and the Android version;
• for each day the app was used: how many times it was opened, how many stopwatches were started, and the most that ran at once;
• each session once it is saved to History: its start and end times, total time, whether a phone restart interrupted it, its lap times, its overall note and lap notes, and its tag;
• your list of tags, including hidden ones.

The first time it sends, the app also sends the sessions already in your History. A running stopwatch is never sent. A session you edit or delete after it was sent is not changed on our side.

Cloudflare sees your IP address when the app connects. It is used only to stop the service being flooded, and it is not stored.

We use usage data only to understand how the app is used and to improve it. We don't sell it, share it or use it for advertising. To have it deleted, see Deleting your data. Uninstalling the app stops any further sending.

Please don't write anything in notes or tags that you would not want us to see.

Deleting your data

To have the data Stopwatch with Notes (by Deepankar Garg) has sent us deleted:

1. Email deepankar.garg@indidev.org with the subject "Delete my data".
2. Usage data is not linked to your name or email, so tell us roughly when you installed the app, and include a tag name or a few words from a note you used. That lets us find your installation's data.
3. If you also sent feedback from the app, include a few words of it.

We delete all usage data of the matching installation (its random ID, daily counts, sessions, lap times, notes and tags) and any matching feedback emails, keep nothing, and reply to confirm within 90 days.

If you keep using the app, it will go on sending new usage data; uninstall it to stop. Data on your phone is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its storage in Android Settings.

Feedback

Settings has a box where you can type feedback. When you tap Send, the app sends what you typed, with the app version, the Android version and the phone's make and model, over an encrypted connection to a service we run on Cloudflare. That service emails it to us and keeps no copy. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send. Cloudflare also sees your IP address, which is used only to deliver the message and to stop the service being flooded.

We keep feedback emails for as long as they help us improve the app. To have yours deleted, see Deleting your data. Please don't put personal information in feedback that you don't want us to have.

You can also email us directly at the address in Settings. That message goes through your own email account.

Permissions

The app asks for one permission: notifications (on Android 13 and later). It uses it only to show a running stopwatch in an ongoing notification, with Lap and Stop buttons. The notification shows the stopwatch's tag and lap time, including on the lock screen. You can refuse the permission, or turn the notification off in the app's Settings; the app works fully without it.

To keep that notification up while a stopwatch runs, the app also uses Android's foreground-service permission, which is granted at install and does not give access to any data.

The app uses Android's internet permission, granted at install, only to send usage data and feedback. It does not use location, camera, microphone, contacts, or any other sensitive permission.

Third parties

The app includes no third-party SDKs, crash reporting or advertising libraries. Usage data and feedback go through Cloudflare, which handles them on our behalf.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Usage data is not linked to anyone's name or contact details.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at the same URL, with a revised "Last updated" date.
